I was commissioned to photograph the Liverpool Music Awards nomination party at the famous Eric’s live music venue, in Mathew Street. I was asked to photograph the guests against a media wall and to photograph the artists performing. I think the highlights of my evening were a set performed by the newly-reformed 1990s Liverpool band Space (Female of the Species, Neighbourhood) and an energetic set by Toxteth MC Miss Stylie. Other performers and faces in the crowd included Dave McCabe of The Zutons, The Coral, Esco Williams, Ian McNabb, Billy and Lee Butler and The Hummingbirds.
Awards organiser Ellie Phillips said: “It is great to see such a range of genres included in the final shortlist.
“It shows how diverse the music industry on Merseyside really is, right through from the musicians and managers to the venues and labels.
“It is also interesting that individuals at different stages in their careers have made the final cut, from newcomers to those who are well established and those who have forged their way using non-traditional routes.”
The awards ceremony itself, takes place at The Dome, at Grand Central Hall, on November 17.
Cash raised will go to Youth Music charity.
